ABOUT THE EVENT:
Last year, on April 15, 2023, we hosted the inaugural Jazz for Justice Celebration & Fundraiser, commemorating our 49th anniversary of providing access to justice for Story County Residents. The event was a remarkable success, with live jazz music provided by Kaizer Jazz, delightful cuisine catered by Great Caterers of Iowa, and generous support from table sponsors, including New Point Law Firm, Hastings & Gartin, and Kim Stevens. With over 80 attendees, the atmosphere was vibrant as we celebrated our shared commitment to justice for all.
During the event, we had the privilege of acknowledging the Honorable Michael J. Moon as the first recipient of the William Abraham Volunteer Award, recognizing his outstanding dedication to our cause. His exemplary service serves as an inspiration to us all.
Building on the success of last year’s event, we are thrilled to announce the upcoming 50th Anniversary Jazz for Justice Celebration & Fundraiser, which will be presented in partnership with the Center for Creative Justice (CCJ) who will also be celebrating their 50th anniversary. Join us once again for an evening filled with live jazz, delicious food, and meaningful connections. Let’s come together to support our mission of providing essential legal assistance to those in need.
Save the date for this year’s event and be part of our legacy of service. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of Story County residents. For more information about the CCJ visit: https://creativejustice.org

FAQ’s:
What is the William Abraham Volunteer Award?
William “Bill” Abraham took a road less traveled. He was a chemical engineering professor at Iowa State University from the early 1960s to 1994 when he was named Emeritus Professor. He had a lifelong interest in law and chose to pursue a JD from Drake Law School after retiring from ISU. Bill served on the Board of Directors for many years and volunteered his time and expertise as an attorney as well. He passed away in 2016 at the age of 84. He is remembered for his passion and dedication to serving Story County residents.
Beginning with the first ever Jazz for Justice event in 2023, where the Honorable Michael J. Moon was named as the first ever recipient, the Legal Aid Society of Story County gives the William Abraham Volunteer Award to a volunteer that we recognize the same passion for service
