COVID-19 UPDATES: The Legal Aid Society of Story County continues to accept cases. At this time, the office is open to walk-in traffic; staff is working on site and remotely to provide access to legal representation in eligible cases. Applications can be filled out online, in person or call our office and we can mail one to you. Phones are answered Monday through Friday 9-5. We will return voicemails left outside those hours. General questions can be directed to firstname.lastname@example.org. Current clients are encouraged to email their attorney directly.
Per CDC recommendations, MASKS ARE REQUIRED to enter our office.
Currently appointments are being scheduled in person or electronically based on individual preference.
EVICTIONS. If you find yourself facing eviction or foreclosure in Story County, contact us. We may be able to work with you through the process. Apply through the link on the “Our Services” page or call the office for more information. Please note that we do not provide financial assistance for rental payments through our office.
Who we are
Legal Aid Society of Story County is a non-profit corporation, formed in 1974 to provide legal assistance in civil matters to families who cannot afford to hire an attorney in private practice.
Carin ForbesCarin M. Forbes is the Executive Director at the Legal Aid Society of Story County. While in law school, Carin joined Legal Aid as a law student intern through the Public Interest Internship Program in 2002. Carin joined Legal Aid as a staff attorney in 2008 and became the executive director in 2015. Prior to joining Legal Aid, she was a partner in a private law practice. She is a member of the Iowa State Bar Association and the Story County Bar Association.
Bethany MillerBethany joined our office as a staff attorney after graduating from Drake Law School in 2016. During her time at Drake she worked as an intern for the Iowa Division of Worker’s Compensation and a variety of private firms. Bethany received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Cedarville University in 2013. She majored in Pre-Law, knowing from an early age that she wanted to be an attorney.
