The Legal Aid Society of Story County is honored to recognize Fred Larson, posthumously, as the 2026 recipient of the William Abraham Volunteer Award.
The award honors the legacy of William “Bill” Abraham, a longtime Legal Aid board member and volunteer attorney, and recognizes individuals who demonstrate an enduring commitment to service, particularly service benefiting the residents of Story County.
Fred exemplified that commitment throughout his life. He devoted 25 years to the Legal Aid Society of Story County’s Board of Directors, serving from 1990 through 2014. During that time, he rarely missed a monthly meeting, regularly served in leadership roles, and generously contributed his time, financial resources, and technological assistance to strengthen the organization.
Although Fred is no longer with us, the impact of his service remains very much a part of Legal Aid today. His decades of commitment helped build and sustain an organization that continues to provide access to justice for Story County residents.
Fred joins past recipients the Honorable Michael J. Moon (2023), Nicole Facio (2024), and Derrick Hinton II (2025), each recognized for extraordinary service to Legal Aid and the Story County community.
The 2026 William Abraham Volunteer Award will be presented posthumously in Fred’s honor on Friday, October 23, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. at the Story City Community Center. The presentation is open to the public, and community members are invited to join us in celebrating Fred’s life, service, and lasting contribution to Legal Aid and Story County.
