Thanks to a generous $9,400 grant from the Story County Community Foundation, the Legal Aid Society of Story County recently completed a much-needed renovation of our front lobby area. This project focused on two key goals: improving staff safety and enhancing the client experience.
With the grant funding, we installed a secure, custom-built transaction window at our reception desk. This window provides a protective barrier for staff during high-stress or sensitive interactions, while still allowing for clear communication and efficient service.
In addition to the window, we reconfigured our front lobby to create a more private and trauma-informed client waiting area. The new layout includes used cubicles generously donated by JoAnn Barten of Barten Law LLC, which allowed us to complete the renovation without exceeding our budget.
The result is a space that better reflects the dignity of the people we serve—calmer, safer, and more aligned with our values of client-centered, trauma-informed legal service.
We are incredibly grateful to the Story County Community Foundation for their support and investment in this project. You’ve helped us turn our vision into reality and made a lasting difference in the way we deliver justice in our community.
