Carin Forbes

Executive Director

Carin M. Forbes is the Executive Director at the Legal Aid Society of Story County.  While in law school, Carin joined Legal Aid as a law student intern through the Public Interest Internship Program in 2002. Carin joined Legal Aid as a staff attorney in 2008 and became the executive director in 2015.  Prior to joining Legal Aid, she was a partner in a private law practice.  She is a member of the Iowa State Bar Association and the Story County Bar Association.

Carin received her Bachelor of Arts degree from The University of Iowa in 2000.  She majored in communication studies and philosophy, and while she love those majors, she didn’t know what to do with them (really, who does?). She decided that since she enjoyed her classes with a law component the most, she would apply to law school.  She graduated from Drake University School of Law in 2003.  While at Drake, she participated in the Public Interest Internship program at this very office, and liked it so much that when a position opened in 2008, she decided to apply.

Carin is a lifelong Iowa resident, growing up in Davenport, Iowa.  Despite being an avid Hawkeye fan, Carin lives in Ames, Iowa, with her husband and two daughters.  Her family and legal practice keep her very busy, but she has somehow found the time to play violin in the Central Iowa Symphony, which she has enjoyed since 2007.
